Basic module according to DIN 18008 – 1 + 2

The regulations on glass dimensioning in Germany have steadily developed and changed in recent years. What is still valid is that a static proof for glass constructions is necessary. The previously valid regulations TRLV, TRAV and TRPV have been superseded by the DIN 18008 Glass in Construction – Design and Construction Rules.

Line-shaped glazed units, which were defined in the TRLV until December 2010, have been found since then in DIN 18008 part 2. For example, the calculation is no longer based on a global safety factor but on partial safety factors. These take into account the uncertainties in the system, the loads and the materials.

The structure of your glazing can be created with just a few clicks. Project data such as storage or geometry can be easily selected from a list without the hassle of having to determine coordinates for the design or assign a storage location to each side. An auxiliary sketch immediately shows the structure of the disk and thus supports the editor in entering the correct project data.

Point – mounted glazing according to DIN 18008 – 3

The technical rules for the design and implementation of point-mounted glazing (TRPV) for vertical and overhead glazing valid until the end of 2010 were superseded by DIN18008 part 3. The standard distinguishes between two brackets.

On the one hand, the plate holders, which are fastened to the glazing by means of a hole, and on the other hand clamping fixtures, which are fastened without a hole to the glass edge. You can enter and calculate both with the module point holder in GLASGLOBAL® in a short time.

Crashproof glazing according to DIN 18008 – 4

Glass elements prevent the falling of people from a higher height, according to DIN 18008 part 4, crash-proof glazing. The standard here differs in three categories A, B, C, and is generally based on the once valid rules of TRAV.

Explanation of the individual categories:

  • Category A:
    Glazings which have to carry away horizontal payloads, since they do not have a supporting parapet or raised spar of the required height for receiving horizontal payloads according to DIN EN 1991-1-1-1: 2010-12, 6.4 and DIN EN 1991-1-1 / NA: 2010-12,6.4.
  • Category B:
    Glass braces clamped at the bottom, the individual panes of which are connected by a continuous handrail of the required height.
  • Category C1:
    Railing infills that do not have to pay off horizontal payloads at the required height.
  • Category C2:
    Glazings below a load-bearing cross bar arranged at the required height, which do not have to remove horizontal payloads of the required height.
  • Category C3:
    Glazings with load-bearing uprights of the required height, which do not have to carry away horizontal payloads of the required height.

In the program you can calculate such a glazing according to the valid standard without additional necessary entries. You will also be informed about the standard specifications in the program, which must be considered in your project.

Walk – on glazing according to DIN 18008 – 5

The additional requirements for walk-on glazing are regulated in part 5 of DIN 18008. These glazing must consist of laminated glass with at least three panes. Both symmetrical and asymmetrical composite safety glasses can be calculated.

The categories for the payload are simply selected from a list in the program so that no loads have to be entered manually. All categories of DIN EN 1991-1-1 / NA defined for walk-in glazing are already stored in GLASGLOBAL®.

Product-specific shear module

The add-on “Product-specific shear module” is available in the expert software GLASGLOBAL® for the static verification of glazing according to DIN 18008.  In GLASGLOBAL® the shear modulus for composite layers (e.g. Trosifol®, SentryGlas®) can be considered depending on the type of load.

Here is an overview of the most important innovations:
